Farmhouse Friday #11 - Staking Claim

You may remember from my previous post, while appearing on the Nate Berkus show Maya Angelou said,

"When people plant flowers in window boxes it means they are claiming their space."

Isn't that a lovely sentiment?
In keeping with that, Hubster built me a simple window box that I filled with pretty Fall flowers.

I suppose this means we've officially claimed our space.

We also hung a couple of black shutters to make the window pop a little.

Vintage shutters are on my wish list, but I'm waiting for just the right pair.  Until then, these will hold their place.

Just the other side of that window is the bedroom that we've been making over.  You can see the pretty window box from inside the bedroom.  That post is coming soon.

Such a simple change, but didn't it punch things up a bit?

What have you been doing to punch things up and stake claim around your home?

Link up or comment below and tell me all about it.  Remember to link back to my post from yours. ;-))

I love our Farmhouse Friday time together.

Have a great weekend!

  7. Laurie, it's amazing what just a few little things like the shutters and window box has made, it looks great. Now what I'm doing to punch things up around our home is moving everything out of the kitchen so the guys can get started on the remodel. Then the fun begins!

  13. I wholeheartedly agree! Anyone can have a generic shrub and bush but a woman who wants to make the nest her own uses flowers...to make the house and entrance sparkle!
Why be generic...flowers make our homes blossom and bloom...and they welcome people in.
    blessings,
