The Farmhouse Gets a Name

Thank you so much for all the encouraging and supportive emails about our new place!  And, for sharing in our excitement!

It won't be long until we are up to our elbows in projects that I will be sharing with you every step of the way, and I have a couple more posts with before photos coming your way very soon.

But first, we needed to name our new place.  Naming our homes is a tradition with us, it's just something we've always done.

So, this past week, over dinner with friends, we tossed around possible pet names for our new place.

We've decided to keep it very simple.

Wanna guess what street we're on?
:-))

Farmhouse on Main, isn't it sweet and simple?
Does your home or cottage have a name?

  1. Such a sweet-looking house! I can't wait to see the project pics! Our house doesn't have a name (altho' my husband has called it a few things when it's needed repairs) but our dream is to own a home near the beach. When we do, I've already planned to paint a sign for it, calling it "SEArenity". Good luck, congrats and may you enjoy many happy and joyful years in your new home! ~Leena!

  6. "Unofficially" our house is named Buttercream Cottage...because that's the color it's painted and it's cute, and small, and "cottage-y" with a front porch. Haven't made a sign, though

  7. Old farmhouses just beg for names I think. Ours is "The vintage Farmhouse" {like my blog} because I've decorated in vintage finds.

  9. Perfect!

I suppose I'm calling our farmhouse The House Of Twig, because it wasn't until I started my blog that the idea of getting this sweet old house was even a possibility.

Loving following along with you, LaurieAnna!

  11. My last house had green trim and shutters, so I named it Case de Verde...although Money Pit would have been more appropriate name. I started calling the house I live in now The Farm...becuase it is in the Hudnall Farm Housing addtion, but it just never really fit. After 4 years, still can't find the right name.

  18. Love it! We have always named our cars but, now I am thinking that I might need to name our poor little house. Although at times I have called it a couple of choice names just because of some of the ways it was remodeled by previous owners...but that is a different story ;)))) Wishing you a beautiful day!!! 19. We named our 1861 Greek Revival "Whispering Pines." We have been pine trees. An older lady in town, told me as a child, she played under our pine trees. When the wind blew the trees, she thought they were whispering. After hearing her story, I decided that was the perfect name. I still love to hear the pines "whisper."

  22. 23 years ago we named our home Linderhof -- we have a brass plaque on the door that reads "Linderhof" and a bigger plaque on the front that reads "Linderhof" -- to us a house NEEDS a name!!! I encourage all of my friends to name their home!

    You picked a good name!

  26. The first thing I did when we moved into our farmhouse was give it a name--Campagne Maison--short, simple and to the point--"Country Home"...in French--indigitive to the design style IN PROGRESS, still after 4 years. One day, SHE will be there!

I love the name of your new home. I, too, cannot wait to see the design projects as you work.

Thanks for sharing! Have a great week.

  28. Hi LaurieAnna,
What a BEAUTIFUL farm house you have! I haven't seen all the photo's yet but I love what I've seen...I can just imagine how beautiful it will be when you're done restoring it. Love the name too. Our home is called Lilac Lane Cottage at Kisiwa Creek Farm. It's not huge or fancy but it's perfect for us. I'm going to enjoy looking around your lovely blog to see what I've missed. Have a wonderful day!
