The Soul of a Vintage Home

Our vintage home has been inspiring me in more ways than one these days.

I've been thinking about these old houses and how through all the changes, all the progress, all the turmoil, they remain a constant.

Think about it....

There is such an honesty to a vintage home.
They don’t put on airs.
They don’t try to be something they are not.

They don’t want to be like any other house.
They are the genuine article.
Proud of their age and character.
They embrace their flaws and imperfections.
Never pretentious or assuming, they welcome everyone.

Standing on character and time, they have nothing to prove.
Wouldn't that be an honorable description if I were describing a person?

People can learn a lot from these beautiful old structures, don't you think?

  11. You couldn't have said it any better, Laurie! Just perfectly worded!! I feel the exact same way about our old farmhouse. She is who she is and is very content being who she is ~~ a beautiful old lady with creaking bones and a loving heart. ♥ I don't think I could ever live in a new home....well, maybe...but if I could build one it would look old inside and out. :)

  13. My husband & I renovated an old home when we were 1st married but then moved to a home built in 1994 with lots of character. After 7 years we decided we missed an older home & the projects that go with it & just purchased a bank repo - a shabby, gorgeous 5,000 sf circa 1876 home we are turning into a B&B. You just feel more at home in home with so much history. You feel the previous owners in the house with you so you are never alone. Without people who love older home they would fall apart or turn into run-down apt buildings.
