The Cottage Has a Name

We knew a couple months ago that we would name the lil cottage in Canton, but nothing seemed to fit. The names we came up with were just too typical, too used, too common. We wanted something unique, something personal, something that had meaning to us alone. So, we agreed to just let it lay and see what unfolded.

And then while at Lowes getting paint mixed, I was talking to another customer about DIY projects and the like. She asked, "how many houses have you and your husband renovated?" I responded, "This is our 5th place". As soon as the words crossed my lips, my thoughts latched on - 5th Place!!! That's it!! That's the name!! It's perfect!

Now, affixed above the front door is a hand painted, personalized, wonderfully distressed sign custom made by Paula of Castle & Cottage Signs!

What do you think about cottage names?  Does your cottage or home have a name?

I'd love to know what it is!

That is perfect -- and the perfect gift!! I was the lucky recipient of Paula's giveaway and received my very own sign from her. She is fantastic to say the least. My sign says "Welcome to Our Nest". It, too, is beautiful. Can't wait to see more of the 5th Place Cottage!

That's cute Kathy, alll of our renovations have been affectionately referenced as "money pit" at one time or another. I'd live to see someone humorous enough to actually hang that on the door!

I don't have a name for our home, but I have named some of the rooms in the house. The Religious room and the Dog room. I call the dinning room the Religious room because I have an old church pew that came out of the church I went to growing up.We have a large Lords Supper picture hanging over the church pew with an old artiq.window that came out of the old church that my husband went to growing up as a child and still goes to. The dog room is upstairs, and it's full of vintage dogs, dog pictures, and pillows with dogs on them that I have collected over the years. I guess I could hang little signs over the doors. Anyway I love the name you came up with, the sign is so cute it's very French looking and shabby chic two of my favorites.

I was always like that with my babies. I had to be around them for a few days before I gave them a name. Now, your cottage is truly all yours!

Girlfriends are pretty special, eh?
Sign is perfecto for your place!

Our lakehouse is named, Rio Bonito, which means beautiful river. My husband had it made from the cedar tree where I used to take my small children for our picnics. It was blown down by tornado winds and he rescued some to make our sign. Now, I can still have picnics with my future grandbabies under the same tree, er sign!

Such an adorable name! My home (and my blog!) is named Opulent Cottage. Tiny and built in 1926, it's a little bit of bling, and little bit of shabby. My husband and I, our daughter, and our two pets (both rescued) are so, so happy here!

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your sweet little cottage!
