I'll Know It When I See It

Ever needed something for your home, but can't really describe what you're looking for? This was my dilemma when scouting bar stools for 5th Place after the recent kitchen makeover. I wasn't sure what I wanted, just the flavor. Nothing appealed to me online, and the big retailers held nothing of interest, everything looked so ordinary. Didn't know what I wanted, but knew I'd know it when I saw it.
And then, at the flea market, there they were - the perfect pair of bar stools. Even in their terribly rough condition with faux brassy gold paint and Naugahyde vinyl seats in two different colors...
they were exactly what I was looking for.
And as a bonus, these rescues from the old Baker Hotel in Dallas offered something I wasn't looking for, but immediately fell in love with, mismatched bases! The seller said they would have sold sooner if the bases had been identical.

The fact that they were different...

my favorite thing!

A quick afternoon project, (this is what we were working on right before the trip to the ER) and we had traded the brassy gold color for silver, and the Naugahyde for burlap. These were exactly what I wanted, I just didn't know it until I saw them!

Do you ever shop thinking, "I'll know it when I see it" ?

xoxo

Yep...only you saw them first! Those are fantastic and the fact they are from the old Baker Hotel makes them even finer! I love that old hotel...that's where my senior prom was held. I have some vintage luggage/room service tags from there, silver serving pieces, etc. I'd be jealous if it was anyone else but you!

Wow!! Those are absolutely perfect! Good bar stools are very hard to find. You accomplished an almost impossible task. Congratulations! It figures the didn't sell because of the mismatched bases. People. No imagination. Always following the pack. :-/

I'm loving the silver and burlap, too.

Fabulous! Bar stools are not that easy to find. These have so much character and a great story too! Your kitchen is so cozy. Is that tin ceiling repro on your backsplash? Did you do it yourself? Adore the simple color scheme made exciting with textural elements. Swoon. ~ Angela

Oh my gosh... I LOVE THEM

And nobody else thought to paint them and make them match? Thankfully, your eye landed on them. The detail is great on these! The back even looks almost like a crown top. Nice job! I do feel like that sometimes, especially when I have something in my mind. Anything else would be a waste of money and a consolation prize, so I would rather wait and see then just buy something to fill a spot.

I do that all the time-I think that is part of the fun! I love finding things that are unique and no one else has. I actually like the fact that your bar stool's bases don't match! Love the burlap set covers too! Hope you are on your way to a speady recovery!

Been looking for bar stools the tall kind for a long time too! Seen a few I've somewhat liked but not enough to pay the hefty price! Thinking there's more than a few of us out there looking for unusual bar stools...Maybe you should start carrying them at Canton! LOL
Hope you are feeling better!

Patti, I sold a fabulous pair of antique barstools a few months ago. I told Tina I was kicking myself for selling them now!

It's an occupational hazard.....getting emotionally attached to inventory!

Laurie Anna,

My Sister in Law and I just had a fabulous idea. (that benefits us!) You should turn 5th Place into a bed and breakfast for us avid Cantonites. Or maybe just have an open house someday to let everyone see your brillant decorating. Just what you need--another project. Hope you are feeling better.

Blessings,

I do the same thing and sometimes it takes years to find the right piece. I love these bar stools and they look perfect in your cottage. I hope you show us more photos of this lovely place.

I am going to try and keep the WW theme going in 2010. Everyone seems to enjoy it and it will make me become more creative with ideas.

Happy 2010!

The bar stools are great but I especially like the mini pendant lights and how they are accentuate the opening.
