For over a month I've hinted to hubster that the only thing I wanted for Christmas was a lens for the Nikon camera that he gave to me last Christmas.
A lot of online research and then a nod from sweetheart fellow blogger Anne helped me select the Nikon AF-S 1.4 lens. Thank goodness for the assistance......have you researched camera equipment recently? It's crazy overwhelming!
So, I shared my findings with hubster and assured him it didn't matter that it wouldn't be a surprise......the lens was what I wanted. Surprises are over-rated anyway, right?
Wrong!
Hubster has been busy, not only did get me the Nikon lens that I wanted, he surprised me with a second lens. A sharp shooting Nikon DX AF-S 55-200 mm 1.4-5.6 G Telephoto lens. Don't I sound knowledgable as I type what I'm reading on the box?
All I could say was wow! I feel as if I've died and gone to photography equipment heaven!
Thank you honey for the surprise, the lenses, and you.
Now, the task of figuring out how to use these gems lay ahead of me.
I get to play play play,
read read read,
and
SHOOT
SHOOT
SHOOT.
I'm excited and ready to learn, but must confess that it feels as if a huge tidal wave of information is racing toward me. So much so that I seem to spend more time looking up terms that are referenced in the manuals, than reading the actual manual. Anyone else gone through this? It takes me an hour just to read a single page.....at least it feels that way. :))
So, to all you pros out there I have a request.....HELP!
Any reference to resources you can share, (books / sites), that might help me develop my DSLR sea legs would be forever appreciated.
Have a great week my friends, as for me, I'm back to reading and researching DSLR photography terms.
Wish me luck...

OMG what a fantastic gift! I've wanted a telephoto lens for a long while, YOU LUCKY GIRL!
You made me laugh when I read the part about looking up terms just to understand the manual, I'm right there with you! There are some great tutorial vids on youtube, I'll see if I can find them and email them to you. Good luck!
how fun!!! sorry, I know nothing!! but you are going to have fun just playing!
your hubby sure did good! I would love to have a "big" camera, but am to much of a baby to go into the deep end so I keep using my point and shoot. Maybe one day...
Enjoy your new toy! Happy New Year to you and yours!
LaurieAnna,
Thomas gave me a new lens for Christmas! Aren't we lucky gals?
Your Friend,
Deborah
Yes we are lucky Deborah! Somehow, I'm betting you are much further along than I am in DSLR knowledge. It's fun though... Happy New Year to you!
You'll love the prime lens! I only use my 35mm f/1.8 now. I suggest the Two Peas 12 week tutorial to help you learn the photography terms. It may help your manual make more sense!
