Farmhouse.
Is it just a word we use to define the style of a house?
Is it just a word we use to define the style of a house?
Or, is it something more?
When I hear the word, it's not just a house that I see,
it's the life in the house that I feel.
That simple beautiful word triggers some of the sweetest thoughts....
Clean sheets drying on the clothesline.
Drinking lemonade from a mason jar.
Shelling peas on the porch with my grandmother.
The delightful squeak of a screen door.
Bare feet on a plank wood floor.
Laying in the grass looking for pictures in the clouds.
Eating homemade ice cream on the front porch.
The sound of gravel on the drive.
Fried chicken on Sunday after church.
Playing jacks on the kitchen floor.....
Perhaps these things are really just memories with my grandparents, or perhaps just sweet memories from childhood.
But all of these memories share a single common denominator,
they took place at my grandparent's farmhouse.
I long for such sweet simplicity in my life now.
Don't you?
Thank you so much for all the Farmhouse inspiration last week.

LaurieAnna,
What wonderful truths. Old houses evoke such pleasant memories ... the ones we've experienced as well as imagined ones of previous residents.
Such an honor to be in the company of you and all the other farmhouse sistas!
Your Friend,
Deborah

Love all these sweet words you used to describe the Farmhouse. Nothing like it...
thanks for hosting, and what a nice way to feature everyone. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for hosting. While I have not had time to blog I look forward to doing some visiting.
Yup, that is what "farmhouse" means to me.
Beautiful photos.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend.
Michele
I'm hoping farmhouse is a mood you can make, as I'm changing my new house to make it a farmhouse. It will have to have a european flair, but I'm losing the "old world" look the builder's interior designer wife put in for a clean and simple farmhouse look and feel. Love your blog and refer to it often for inspiration.
Well what fun to find my front porch in the pictures you posted from last week!
That Old House is blushing from the attention.
I'm going to get a cup of coffee and browse now -- thanks for hosting! My post today is about our attempts to make a farmhouse-y kitchen.
Now to read more posts!

I wanted to let you know I think this is a great link party. To each of us farm house can mean a different thing and I enjoy seeing all the different aspects of farm house. I hope all is going well with your own farmhouse reno.

We must have had the same grandparents. I did the same things at my grandparents. Homemade ice cream, watermellon, picking strawberries in my Grandpa's patch, playing in the barn, smokehouse, and the creek. And taken naps on the sideporch in the glidder while my mother, aunts, older sisters, and grandma broke beans on the front porch. Oh what times those were. Thanks for reminding me of such times so long ago. Thanks. Lynda
I love how you used images from so many different party participants to create this post. I'm honored to have been one of those featured. ;)
Thanks for hosting, LaurieAnna!

I to am a lover of farm houses and old barns. I had a chance this last weekend to take a few photos of some old country barns. My dream is to have a old barn converted in to a home.
Feel free to take a peek!!
