The Color Purple

Why am I so drawn to this color?
Could my love of lavender be the catalyst?
Or could it be that I was imprinted as a girl because my first schoolgirl crush, Donny Osmond wore purple socks?
Whatever the reason, apparently I'm not alone because Better Home and Garden magazine predicted that purple would remain a trendy color throughout 2012 in an article HERE.
I love purple and use it abundantly in our yard.

But, it does sound like a prettier
color when it's called something like Amethyst or Orchid, doesn't it?
And although it’s not a color I will soon splash in paint on my walls,
(however this lovely photo from House Beautiful has me reconsidering the aforementioned statement)
or sprawl it out as a rug covering our floors,
(well, maybe if I were 30 years younger :-))
I am using a softer version of it it in less permanent ways in our home.

Such as with fresh flowers, which is a quick and inexpensive way to get my purple fix.
A more expensive way to add this lovely pop of color began last year when I bought my first piece of purple /lavender transfer ware.
The paler versions of the transferware, a soft lavender, are my preference but seem to be harder to find.  It's such a tasteful way to bring in a soft pop of the color.

I found a couple plates at Forest Wood Antique Mall in Dallas, and picked up a few pieces during our trip to California last year from a beautiful shop, Bountiful, in Venice.
The shoppe owner, Sue Balmforth, told me that Ellen DeGeneres is a huge collector of purple transfer ware.
Hmmm…..I wonder if Donny collects purple transfer ware too?
:-))
Obviously someone is seriously collecting it because there is very little to be found.
Perhaps Ellen and Donny are trying to corner the market on purple transfer ware.
:-))

Would someone please let them know there is a Farmhouse dining room in Texas that would LOVE to have just a few more pieces. J

P.S.  All of these photos and their sources can be found on my Color - Purple Pinboard.  I will share more of the dining room later this week.

When my daughter got married in 2010, I knew I wanted to wear purple. My husband looked at me like I head two heads when I told him I was having a hard time choosing between: Amethyst, Aubergine, Plum, or Eggplant. I went with Aubergine.

I collect purple transfer ware and it is hard to come by~I was lucky to find a complete dinner set on eBay last year. I line my walls with it in the dining room and kitchen. I also use it is in my new shop...since I was a girl I loved purple too.

Beautiful post. My sister and I shared a room as children. One time we returned home from a weekend away, and our mom surprised us with new bedding, curtains, and freshly painted walls. We loved our purple bedroom!
No purple rooms in our home, but there is an abundance of purple in our gardens. ~ Sarah

Love lavender and your purple transfer ware is fabulous. Hope you do find more; but sadly, I have no contact with Ellen or Donny so I can't put in a good word for you, Ha!!

Well, I LOVE your dining room...especially the table, tufted chairs and low seats...and the way you put the napkins!
I've been thinking of a little ribbon with purple gingham for a dinner party outdoors...can't get purple off my mind either!
I'd love to have some of that purple transferware...thanks for alerting me to it ;)

Purple or a hue of some part of purple has been in our home for a few years now. I used lavender and different green hues in our bedroom and bathroom in our house in KY and now in CO. I just get so much pleasure from looking at the colors in our rooms.
I'm still thinking of painting our bedroom walls a light shade of lavender, think it would be peaceful and so serene. It's a large room with high ceiling so think it would be very restful. Even hubs thinks he likes that idea.
Before we moved to KY from MT I'd never considered those colors. To me alot depends on where you are and what kind of house you have, how it feels. I go very much on inspiration and how I feel about something at the time. If it keeps coming to me then I realize that's what I should do. I craft pretty much that way also. I don't plan I just do what my head tells me as I go along.
