Screen Doors

Most of my special childhood memories stem from my grandmother, and one of my favorite things about her house was the screen door.  Much of the charm was perhaps hidden in the fact that she never seemed to mind it slamming behind us.  And, now that I think about it, I think she enjoyed the energy of us running in and out of the house....I do too.

I still love the sound of a screen door closing, it makes me feel like a child and reminds me of being with her.

We have always installed screen doors on every house we've had, and always will.  I'd been keeping my eye open for an old one for 5th Place when I spotted one at Lowe's for $88.  Even though it's new, it has a nice vintage look to it.  And, I must confess that I've purposely let it slam several times just to listen to it. :~)  Isn't it strange how sounds can transport us back in time?  I love that.

Doesn't the door add charm to the front porch?  Now if I could just decide what color to paint the house?... Any suggestions?

Greens to greys would be pretty and allow for plantings of just about any hue. Just a thought. I also have fond memories of screen doors, including the slamming sounds. Have a wonderful week. ~ Angela

The screen door is absolutely stunning. What a fabulous find. I love it. I love the yellow house color too. Maybe a really pretty blue gray color. Hugs, Marty

Fairly new to your blog...love what i have seen so far! Colors for your house...i lean towards the grey/blue/green colors. We have someone coming to paint our house in less than a month and I still haven't chosen our colors....we have our little beach cottage - it is all white right now but tring to figure out the colors...it is hard. Good luck. Can't wait to see what you chose!

That door is lovely! I long for a nice country-ish door but my husband made us get a forever door and I hate it. Give me a sweet screen one any day of the week!

Yes, a slamming screen door at my mother-in-law's home meant someone else had come to visit. Fun!!!

I, too, love screen doors, all because my grandmama has one on the front door and one on the back. I love the sound of the spring screeching! I always think of her when I hear a screechy screen door :)

There is nothing prettier than an old screen door - it makes for such a charming and welcoming home. I love yours and of course, I love the yellow house! I always love to see your new ideas and photos of your home - just like I dream for ~

My kitchen door is a screen door, but not as pretty as yours. It has a "thing" on it that keeps it from slamming too hard, but the best part is that it squeaks! Ahhhhhhhh. . . . memories.

I too love the sound of a screen door slamming. It reminds me of the house that I grew up in. Thanks for taking me back.

Your screen door looks wonderful. Love your yellow color. My choice would be some shade of green. A screen door is the only one I do not mind hearing slam....

I stopped in last week to say hello to you at your shoppe. You were so busy I did not want to bother you. The shoppe was wonderful and I was happy to see so many ladies shopping there. Blessings, sandi

The screen door makes the house! I say paint the house an earthy green. I want to paint my front door this color and I'm still looking for just the right shade...

I have such a love affair with screen doors! Yours is just lovely.

Our maybe-future farmhouse has a gorgeous original (1920) one on the front door, that's been a big selling point with me.

Great post!

I like the crazy yellow! It's fun! And the door is fab!

I saw a lamp today at Target and thought of you. It said No. 5 and it was on a green jug lamp. You'll have to be on the look out for it!

I couldn't agree more, I've posted about this same thing. It's funny, my mom was over the other day and the kids were in and out. She said to me, I don't know how you stand that door slamming shut all the time. Ahhhh, it's a beautiful sound and I wouldn't change it at all!
