Farmhouse Friday is Back!

When you hear the word "Farmhouse", what images come to mind for you?  Do you see a French farmhouse somewhere in the South of France?
What about a sprawling Connecticut farmhouse?

Or, do you prefer a simple southern home with a wrap around porch?  :-))

Farmhouse Fridays are up and rolling again and we thought this would be a fun "peek" into what the word "farmhouse" means to you.  Do you love farmhouses as much as we do?  What is it about farmhouses that makes your heart sing?

Is it the decor that is so appealing?
Or is it the gardens that you love?

Do you prefer a manicured garden ...

or is your favorite a field of wildflowers?

Please join us every Friday for decorating tips, gardening ideas, recipes, basically anything and everything pertaining to farmhouse living.

A big thank you to Designworks Studio for some of the images used today.

Do you have anything special you'd like to see in the upcoming weeks?   If so, we'd love to hear your thoughts!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

When I hear "farmhouse" I think about our house. :) last year when we had the home inspection, the inspector started out by saying "ok, so what we have here is just your typical old farmhouse." I was sold!

I live in a farmhouse, and when I hear the word I think of yummy food. That is what we always have when we visit the farmhouses of our parents!

When I think of farmhouse I think of my grandmother and everything she did to make her farmhouse a home. Freezing vegetables, cooking from scratch, singing while she cleaned the house, a beautiful garden filled with mums that she'd cut for indoor arrangements, potatoes stored in the cellar until the starch turned to sugar, making for slightly sweet mashed potatoes, the cozy attic that we always loved exploring as kids. Simple pleasures that create a beautiful life!

When I think of farmhouses... I think of comfortable porches, gentle cross-breezes with sheer curtains blowing out the window!
don't forget ice cold glasses of iced tea!

I think of family, Sunday dinners around the table, chickens in the yard, apple pie, singing together, going fishing', Saturday night baths, going to Sunday School in itchy full skirted dress with squeaky patent leather shoes, clothes on the clothesline...simpler times.

Farm House = East Texas farm houses; simple and elegant; some painted white; some naturally weathered. Our own homestead was a simple "dog trot" house. Beautiful English like garden covering the whole front "yard" with snuff bottles hammered into the ground to mark the walkway - an amber mosiac! Bathing in galvanized tubs (filled with water from the well in the AM; warming up during the day by the hot scalding sun; just right to bathe in the PM. Woodburning stoves and hand cranked pump to get water. Huge gardens with fresh vegetables, fruits, etc. Watermelon or homemade ice cream for dessert. Horses/cows/chickens/pigs/hound dogs and cats to feed - smell of hay in the barn. I could go on and on - these are just scenes from my upbringing and visiting relatives in East Texas. Blessed am I.

I would especially like to see farm house porches - rocking chairs would be a bonus. Judith/Texas

Farmhouses give me the sense of simplicity and comfort. I would rather have the hard work of a farm than the indoor office work of the city.

LaurieAnna: I love farmhouses. The look and feel of them. As a little girl I stayed alot at my grandparents farmhouse, milking cows, picking strawberries and loquats, squirting milk at the barn cats and gathering eggs. I happen to live in a Victorian cottage but have a farmhouse somewhere in my heart..Happy Friday..Judy

I grew up in farm country though I was always a town girl. To me a farmhouse is the point of connection between farmer and the land and how it nutures us and the connection between the generations who have farmed that land and cared for (and been sheltered by) that house.
I really love this idea.

You asked!! Farmhouse takes me back [even as recently as 1990-2006] to our 100+ yr old dogtrot farmhouse in southeast Texas-newton county. After working on it for 7 years I was ready for an open house. It was furished with iron beds, Cotton embroidered pillow cases, free standing chifferobes [those houses didnt have closets] and even the utensils in mykitchen many were from that era. This one was bigger than the average-they added as needed; Ours had 4 bedrooms including the "sleeping porch" w windows all around , the shelf with holes for wash pans [hand pump] still on the side porch and I found old wash pans to place there.IT'S A LONG STORY. go to my blog and scroll DOWN TIL YOU FIND THE POST TITLED 'another life' there is more detail. So why would we leave something so unique that we invested so much heart and soul, sweat into...GRANDS..they were growing up too fast-and we were gettin old-er. It' the only move we have ever second guessed.
