Serendipity Market & A Bedroom Makeover!

Oh my!  It's been over a week since I've posted!  What a month January has been! Traveling, gift markets, surgery, crazy weather, and.....a bedroom makeover?  Well hey, we had to squeeze it in before all the trucks begin arriving NEXT WEEK!

I can't believe it's almost time to begin our shoppe makeover for our 2nd annual Serendipity Market (photo above is from last year's event)!

It's planned for Saturday, February 20th 9am - 5pm, with a champagne brunch from 9am - 11am.   It's the exact date of last year's Serendipity Market...that makes it easy to remember, right?  I will share lots more details in future posts ....we've got big surprises planned for you!  We will very soon be in the middle of our own three ring circus with all the transformation activities!

Meanwhile, I'm relishing the opportunity to relax with a bedroom makeover before the craziness kicks in again!

Do you remember this room at 5th Place?

In its' original state when we purchased it, with sponge painted green walls, badly water damaged floors, built in particle board cabinets?

How could you forget?  Perhaps you wanted to.  I know I did, but aren't before pictures rewarding?

We kicked off the project by removing the cabinets and shelves and applying fresh paint.  Those green sponged walls were quickly transformed with "Cottage Linen" and the trim was freshened with "Clean White".

Next, the floor....*sigh - big sigh*.  What an utter mess.  Attempts to salvage were futile, the water stains were too deep.  So, we took a new direction to save the floors and recruited help from the big guns - I rented a commercial belt sander!  Have you ever used one of these things?  It's a riot...I felt so powerful!

After sanding the entire floor 3 times, we primed and sealed the remaining water stains using some of the Zinsser products, great prep tools!

Prep for what you ask?  My favorite part of the project thus far!  I've been in love with them since I first saw them in books and blogs about Swedish Interiors and decided to go there for this room.

Two coats of primer, three coats of floor paint later and...
a white floor is born.

I love it!  We finished it off with a clear sealer made for garage floors.  This was an afterthought when we realized a matte finish, white, wood floor would be virtually impossible to keep clean.  I love the fresh look, but love the easy maintenance even better!

5th Place is smiling.

Furniture is next.

So, I'm sitting here watching the game (are you?) and catching up on email and blogs. This room transformation is just amazing. So refreshing, so Swedish. I share your site and blog with others looking for a change. I find myself today wanting to move right into that room. :) I do envy your energy and knowhow! And yes, more inspiration would be great, as it helps to see big projects actually come to beautiful fruition. Thanks for visiting me today and for your kind words. My post was a tad melancholy, not my usual fare, so thanks for validating me! ~ Angela

I am watching the game also and blogging. It must be catchy! Laurie Anna your room is beautiful. I love the floor. One of my friends did the same thing but she painted a few French words on the floor here and there. It was very nice also. I am looking forward to see your new treasures. Best to you. sandi

LOVE LOVE LOVE the floors!!! I have a house built in 1883 and we have the same problems with the floors. Water stains:( and I'm afraid no matter how much I sand them down they'll still be there. Sooo I'm trying to talk the husband into painting them white like yours! Could you perhaps post more detailed directions of exactly what you used? I would love to do this!

Yes Angela, we are watching the Cowboys this afternoon. It was a tradeoff. I watch the game with him, he helps me move furniture after. I think I got the better of that deal!

Hi Howry Family, I think I may do future post with details about white floor project. It was a little more involved than this post reflects, but wasn't that difficult. The hardest thing was giving myself permission to do it (we have pets and lots of traffic)....and the "wait time" for drying between all the steps! I struggle with "waiting".

Laurie Anna where is the new cottage at in Canton? Are you still going to keep the store on 19?

Hi Cindy, the cottage we are renovating was purchased for the crew to stay in during the Canton shows...it's residential. We named it 5th Place.

The store, LaurieAnna's Vintage Home, is still on Hwy 19.
