Vintage Home, More than just a Name

If you guessed that we purchased another vintage home with endless projects, you are correct!

When I registered my business name 7 years ago, it wasn't randomly chosen.  Vintage wasn't the cool buzz word it has become
in recent years, I chose it because it had personal meaning for me.
You see, the words "Vintage Home"
are not just part of my business name,
it is a large part of my life.
Vintage homes are all that hubster and I have ever lived in.

However, when we began looking for a home last summer, possibly our last, we briefly toyed with the notion of buying a new home.

It was a notion that was fueled by the Utopian idea
of living in a home that didn't need work.

What a lovely idea it was.
But it was not to be.

There was something standing in our way.

Something I couldn't get around...
-
-
-
my addiction.

Perhaps it's time to come clean.....
They say the hardest part is admitting you have a problem.
I am hopelessly addicted to the charm of old houses.

It's not anything new,
this love affair extends back to my childhood.
No matter how hard I try,
I can't get over it.

Creaking floors,
chippy paint,
squeaky doors...

these things speak to my soul.
Vintage homes show their age,
much the same as our laugh lines show ours.

My spirit is at peace here.
No doubt, our life would be much more restful if I could find a good 12 step program, but it would also be much less adventurous.

So here we are,

at the jumping off point.
Ready to dive in head first
into a world of new projects.

With one big change this time.
This is the first time,
we will be able to share the entire journey with you.

Every DIY project,
every accomplishment,
every mistake lesson,
we get to share them all with you,
right here.

This tickles me pink!

Are there any other vintage home junkies out there or is it just me?

Would you like to see more of our new vintage place?

Buying a home that didn't need work? Oh honey -- you make me laugh. Out loud. Old house junkies like you and me, we just don't DO that.

This one looks wonderful -- I am IN LOVE with that screen door. Can't wait to see your projects.

Old houses -- you either "get" them or you don't. And if you do, you just aren't happy anywhere else.

There's nothing wrong with a new house . . . except, it isn't OLD.

I do love that feeling of those past owners, past generations, whose emotions and loves, triumphs and tragedies, whose lives have seeped into the walls. I never feel alone in my old house; it hugs me.

Good luck!!!
Can't wait!

I am addicted to old homes too! My addiction consists of looking, but not buying. My hubby does not share my passion and hates DIY, so it would not work for us. I can't wait to see more and live my passion through watching your vintage home come together. Congrats!

I thought it was going to be vintage. I grew up in a vintage home and always feel out of sorts living any where else. When you make repairs on a vintage home...you are caring for an antique. I think its much better than regular home repairs. From what you've shown, the house looks very very good. Yes, I want to see the whole thing as you work on it. Isn't that why you bought it? So you could share here? Congratulations! I'm looking forward to seeing every little bit.

I can't wait to see more, and for you to share all of your projects with us! I have the same addiction, and although my husband said that he wanted to find a newer home when we found this one, I know that it captured his heart as well. Now, the projects are a whole other matter! They have NOT captured his heart in the least! He is not a handy man and so that makes it tricky sometimes. :)
But that didn't stop up from getting this place and from oohing and ahhhing over places like those in your photos!
have fun...t. xoxoxoxo

I am so excited for you! I got a little teary reading your post as I know how important a wonderful home is. I am jealous...I really wanted a vintage home, but being that I am not handy at all, it is a project bigger than I could handle (I would have to have Eldon from Murphy Brown living with me). Congrats my friend...I can't wait to see more. I will go grab the the TV trays you want from the booth and keep them for you. Sorry I won't be at Canton this time, but we will talk soon.

Love vintage homes. We just moved into another vintage home and my granddaughter asked me why we didn't get a new house! I love the old door locks, door knobs, etc. Looking forward to seeing more pictures and following along in any improvements you do.

Congratulations on your new venture! I can't wait to follow along on your renovation through your blog! I am asbsolutely mad about vintage homes!!! I live near Waxahachie TX & anytime I'm there (which is quite a lot!), I allow enough time to get an ice tea and then drive around the historic districts enjoying those beauties! I never get tired of it! Those spectacular vintage homes just make my heart beat faster... We didn't make it to Canton this past weekend---we missed seeing you & shopping those awesome mercury glass specials you had this month! Patti in Texas

And, I noticed that nandina bush right by the steps. That's a dead give away of an older home. Nandina's were always there! I think of my Granny every time I see one. Enjoy your new old home!:)

You are not alone...we love, love, LOVE Vintage Homes. Their beauty is so much more than new construction...it is history. It is wonderful to get to hear the history behind the home. My husband and I have a Vintage Home, not as vintage as your beauty, but vintage. Our home was built in the 1940's and we are on an adventure in renovating. We hope we have plucked her from ruins, but as we dig deeper into her we find neglect that hurts our soles more than our pocket. Vintage is so beautiful when you look with your heart and that is what we Vintage Junkies do, tender hearts seeking the love of our lives in our homes. We want to capture the life of what use to be...Grandma's cooking in the apron, the sence of belonging and warmth of what we had and give it to our childern and their childern. And this is what we have done...we have heard several times from our childern how happy they are that we have the home we have. It reminds them of Grandma or it smells like Grandma's house filled with the smells biscuits or purple hull peas or chicken dumplings. Memories flow from their hearts and minds, this is love, love of the simpler Vintage life. We have raised Vintage Junkies...every one of our kids (5) love Vintage as much as we do. So, you, my Vintage Junkie friend, are not alone.

Sometimes, I visit my friends' homes, with their play rooms, and finished basements, and nice laundry rooms, and I pine for a new house, and then I come home and I know that this is the right house for us!

LaurieAnna,

My name is Deborah and I'm a historic houseaholic. [Readers reply: Hello, Deborah.]
I understand the draw to all things vintage. I've been that way since I was a child.
I am so excited to share our journeys as we make these old houses our homes!
I love the old screen door and beautifully detailed door bell plate.
They just don't make them like they used to.

Your Friend,
Deborah
